This weekend we are off to Harrogate for the Home & Gift Show. It's one of the major trade venues, geared to showcase the newest items on the market, with an eye to the autumn/winter season and, of course, Christmas! As I love everything to do with that time of year, I could spend a fortune on festive frippery, at the expense of all else, so I must be sensible (boo hoo)!The Harrogate show is unusual in that it is spread around several of the large hotels in addition to the conference centre, which provides the opportunity for a little fresh air and change of scenery. Keep fingers crossed that the weather stays dry. Last year it was beautifully warm and sunny, with people having drinks and ice cream on the grass, so the halls weren't overcrowded. The previous year was cold and wet, which makes it much less pleasant!

We have been having fun going to the outdoor markets. Most of the products are the same as sold in the big craft shows. My mother always began preparing for Xmas in August!

Derrick - I wish I had known that you were coming down to Harrogate - you must come A1 and you could have slipped off long enough to have a bite to eat with us - we are only about 6 miles from the Richmond/Scotch corner turn off. It would have been good to meet - bear it in mind for next time please.
A gift show? That's one of the perks of your business. Sounds like a lot of fun! Can't wait to hear all about it when you return.

In response to the title of your post, Derrick, - I have heard there is a place called Betty's Tearooms in Harrogate where there are wonderful cakes!! (Weaver also mentioned it in her blog some time ago). I'll have a very large custard slice please!!
Ahhh, FRIPPERY, one of my favorite words! Yes, be sure to enjoy tea. My personal favorite tea is Yorkshire Gold by Taylor's of Harrogate. I once stayed in the Harrogate Hotel...It was a delightful small hotel and served great dinners. I wonder if it is still
